This book began as my brother's creation before he passed, and Aadil carried that vision forward in a way that felt both thoughtful and true to its spirit. We also asked him to take on some unique challenges — most notably developing a custom font based on my brother's handwriting — and he handled it with care and precision. We are already working toward additional stories!
I designed both characters from scratch, then took the book all the way to print: cover, interior spreads, layout, and print-ready files.
The style came out of the story itself. Soft, whimsical digital art with a slightly atmospheric edge — warm enough for young readers, but with room for the quieter, stranger moments the book needed.
Steven also asked for something unusual — a custom font built from his late brother's handwriting, used throughout the book. That meant tracing individual letterforms and building a usable typeface from them, so the words on the page are literally in his hand.
A 32-page paperback delivered in three weeks, print-ready to publishing standards — nothing came back at the upload stage.
