The author wanted to create a warm family-centered children’s book celebrating the special relationship between a child and their Nai Nai. The story brings together everyday moments such as reading, cooking together, playing sports, visiting the zoo, and spending time as a family.
The goal was to make these simple moments feel memorable and personal through expressive characters and inviting illustrations, while capturing the warmth of family traditions and shared experiences.
For this project, I focused on creating a cozy, storybook-style visual experience with expressive characters and detailed everyday environments. The family members were illustrated with distinct appearances and personalities so their relationships could come through naturally in each scene.
The artwork moves through different settings—from the home and kitchen to a soccer game and a zoo visit—so each illustration has its own visual character while remaining part of the same story. I also designed the cover and integrated the rhyming story text into the illustrated pages, giving the book a balance between readable typography and full-scene artwork.
The project also included a recipe/instruction page, requiring the book design to work across both storytelling and practical content.
The finished book brings together family storytelling, playful illustrations, and everyday childhood experiences in one cohesive visual narrative. I delivered the illustrated cover, interior story scenes, character artwork, page layouts, and supporting content pages.
The final design gives the book a personal and heartfelt feel, with scenes that celebrate family time, shared activities, learning, cooking, and the bond between generations.
