The author wanted to create a heartfelt children’s book about a grandfather who is going through cancer treatment after years of serving his community as a firefighter. The story focuses on family, love, courage, and the different ways children can support and care for someone they love.
I created a warm, colorful illustration style with expressive characters designed to make the emotional story accessible to young readers. The illustrations show Grandpa’s journey through treatment and everyday family moments, while highlighting his identity as a former firefighter and a hero in his family.
